Si dices "I have been to Paris last year" un nativo sabe que algo esta mal.
Past Simple = TERMINADO + TIEMPO ESPECIFICO
- I visited Colombia in 2024. ✓
- She graduated three years ago. ✓
- We met at the conference last month. ✓
Present Perfect = CONEXION CON EL PRESENTE
- I have visited Colombia. ✓ (experiencia de vida — relevante ahora)
- She has graduated. ✓ (resultado actual — ahora tiene titulo)
- We have met before. ✓ (nos conocemos — relevante para esta conversacion)
Las 4 Reglas de Oro
Regla 1: Si mencionas CUANDO → Past Simple
Estas palabras SIEMPRE requieren Past Simple:
- yesterday, last week/month/year
- ago (two days ago, a year ago)
- in + año pasado (in 2020, in March)
- when I was young / when I lived in...
Correcto: I went to New York last summer. ✓ Incorrecto: I have gone to New York last summer. ✗
Regla 2: Si dices "ever/never/already/yet/just" → Present Perfect
- ever — Have you ever tried sushi?
- never — I have never been to Europe.
- already — She has already finished.
- yet — Have you finished yet? / I haven't finished yet.
- just — I have just arrived.
- I have worked with international teams. (experiencia general)
- He has lived in three different countries. (a lo largo de su vida)
- We have tried everything.
- I worked with an international team at my last company. ✓
- I have lived here for five years. (todavia vivo aqui)
- She has worked at Google since 2022. (todavia trabaja ahi)
Compara con Past Simple (ya termino):
- I lived there for five years. (ya no vivo ahi)
- She worked at Google for three years. (ya no trabaja ahi)
Estructura Gramatical
Past Simple
Afirmativo: Sujeto + verbo en pasado
- I worked / She went / They played
Negativo: Sujeto + didn't + verbo base
- I didn't work / She didn't go
Pregunta: Did + sujeto + verbo base?
- Did you work? / Did she go?
Present Perfect
Afirmativo: Sujeto + have/has + participio pasado
- I have worked / She has gone / They have played
Negativo: Sujeto + haven't/hasn't + participio pasado
- I haven't worked / She hasn't gone
Pregunta: Have/Has + sujeto + participio pasado?
- Have you worked? / Has she gone?
Los 10 Errores Mas Comunes
1. Usar Present Perfect con "yesterday/ago/last..."
- ✗ I have seen that movie yesterday.
- ✓ I saw that movie yesterday.
2. Usar Past Simple para experiencias sin fecha
- ✗ Did you ever eat sushi?
- ✓ Have you ever eaten sushi?
3. Usar Past Simple con "already/yet/just"
- ✗ I already finished.
- ✓ I have already finished.
4. Confundir "for" con duracion terminada vs. activa
- I have been married for 10 years. (sigo casado)
- I was married for 10 years. (ya no estoy casado)
5. Usar "since" con Past Simple
- ✗ I worked here since 2020.
- ✓ I have worked here since 2020.
6. "Gone" vs. "Been"
- She has gone to Paris. (esta EN Paris ahora — no ha vuelto)
- She has been to Paris. (fue a Paris y ya volvio — experiencia)
- "Comi ayer" → I ate yesterday (Past Simple)
- "He comido sushi alguna vez" → I have eaten sushi (Present Perfect)
8. Olvidar que "today/this week/this year" pueden ser Present Perfect
- I have had three meetings today. ✓ (el dia no termino)
- I had three meetings today. ✓ (el dia termino / ya no espero mas)
- ✗ I have arrived at the office, have opened my laptop, and have started working.
- ✓ I arrived at the office, opened my laptop, and started working.
En ingles, si dices CUANDO (even "today" with a finished context), usa Past Simple.
